I am a Ford guy. My first car was a 2004 Ford Explorer Sports Track, which was awesome. One day I will own a F-150. Maybe its because I was raised on Fords or because I have always wanted a truck but I know I want the 2017 F-150. This truck has a 5L V6 EcoBoost® engine with 10-speed transmission which is plenty for hauling campers and boats around with. They start selling at $27,110  which I find to be pretty reasonable and has a good fuel economy with 18 city and 24 highway (for a massive truck at least).

Mercedes has made the businessman’s supercar a little bit more sporty, with the release of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster. Mercedes did not change to much for this new generation of GT’s, but the biggest feature change is that it is now a convertible. The hardtop convertible has the same engine as the precious GT’s as it is a 4.0-litre, V8, twin-turbo. That same engine produces 469 HP with its 7-speed automatic gearbox. It is massively expensive with the price tag at 140,000 Euros.  I think the looks on this car are still top notch, the massive grill I find appealing along with the Z3 kind of look when it has the top down. So the question for this car is a convertible GT worth the extra cash, if one could by a hardtop version for 30,00 Euros less.

Review: 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster

 

Mazda started making Miata’s back in the 90s. These first models with there sporty flare, pop-up headlights, and smallish price tag endured it to the motoring world. Mazda had then perfected the small convertible sports car for the general public. The new MX-5s have begun to be more computerized and to have a more super car-eques look about them. The 2017 Miata RF model is final product one of these routes Mazda have taken. It has a new styled convertible roof that denotes it from other convertible sports cars. This new model also comes in a new “metallic grey” paint that I find very sleek. The RF model has the same “2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 155 horsepower and 148 pounds-feet of torque” as the standard model. The handling remains strong enough for this to  be a day- to-day car and be fun a Sunday afternoon drive along a sandy beach. So Mazda has pleased this Miata fan by sticking with what works, a car that his fun to drive to work and around some corners.

I have to say before I talk about this car and say that I am extremely biased for any California out there. Owning a my own California whatever year is one of my biggest dreams. The 2016 T Handling Speciale, then only makes me want one more. It is one of my favorite looking California’s, and it has very a high quality interior. Most car reviews agree that the new T is sportier and more fun to drive than some other Ferrari convertibles. The engine is a “V8, 3855cc, turbocharged” monster, the car also weighs only 1625kg!  One of the great things about this model is that it is quite economical with a 26.9mpg. So this upgraded model  does not disappoint and the great car model that is the Ferrari California continues to amaze.

The 720s is a fast car, its is a very fast car. So fast a car that it has a 4 liter, V-8, Twin-turbocharged, and 710 bhp with a maximum torque of 568 lb-ft. To be honest, I have no idea what those numbers actually mean when it comes to cars. I don’t know why more HP makes the car faster, but I know a fast car when I see one. This new McLaren is fast. The design on the car is by itself beautiful, but what surprising is that the body work was actually molded more by wind tunnels than an artists sketch. A car this scientific is even measured to be as light as 2,829-lb. dry weight. So this new scientifically fast McLaren 720s is a car to see, if you can look fast enough.

Daphne Bavelier is a brain scientist that is studying the effect of playing violent video games has on the gamer. Contrary to popular notion she claims that videos games can improve the eyesight of the gamer. This she claims is because the eye pays attention to things in finer detail in video games. She does agree with mainstream science that binging video games is bad for ones general health. She also claims that video games can improve the gamers attention span and spatial reasoning. The violent shooter games are especially apt to do this because the quickness of the game forces the gamer to develop very quick reflexes.

 

 

 

The new Ferrari 812 Superfast has the most stupid name of any Ferrari, which is a hard sell when the company names another car the LaFerrari. The car is a replacement for the F12 Berlinetta which was the flagship of Ferrari since 2012. The Superfast is admittedly super fast with its turbocharged V8 engine that produces 790 HP. But the greatest thing about this car is the looks. The shape was based on the original F12, which was beautiful anyways. Ferrari has made the superfast a little more aerodynamic which also improves its speed. The car as only recently been revealed and as a consequence has had little road testing, so we have yet to see if this supercar can become the flagship model it was designed to be.

When you think of Volkswagen, performace probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. However, the Volkswagen group owns companies like Bentley, Audi, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. These high performance companies mean that every now and then, VW can dip into their various parts bin to create something special. In 2006, that car was the Volkswagen Phaeton. This car was equipped with a Bentley and Audi inspired W-12 engine. It produced well over 400 horsepower and introduced a wave of luxury. The Phaeton stood out in the VW line-up. Partially due to its advanced air conditioning system, luxury seating, and double-pain glass, and partially due to its price tag of around $100,000. Although impressive, the car never caught on and its production was cut after just a few year. Today, you could find a Phaeton used for around $10,000 and what a buy that would be. Hopefully Volkswagen will surprise us again soon with another stand-out vehicle.

The Last Lecture is a talk by Randy Pausch, about achieving his dreams and his experiences with life. The talk has become a it on YouTube and a bestselling book. He uses humor in a way that teaches us about how to achieve our childhood dreams. The talk was so effective, after watching it I made a list of my childhood dreams and imagined  what it would take for me to achieve these dreams. The fact this was his last lecture because he was dying from pancreatic cancer makes the lecture that much more potent. His childhood dreams included the standard childhood dreams like be a childhood hero, or experience zero gravity. He also had professional aspirations such as his dream of becoming a Disney imaginer and work on the virtual reality games that are in Disney quest. I find that fascinating because the games he helped create I remember playing with or on when I was younger. His final sentence of the lecture was very touching, because he said that this talk wasn’t for the audience or for YouTube, but for his kids.
